DICTIONARY BOOK / 2.0

Privacy Policy

Effective: October 25, 2026 · Dictionary Book 2.0 for macOS

Your vocabulary belongs on your Mac. This policy explains what Dictionary Book stores locally, what happens when you contact support, and how this website handles visits.

No account. No advertising or tracking SDKs. No automatic upload of your vocabulary to our servers.

01Scope and contact

This policy covers Dictionary Book 2.0 for macOS and its support and privacy pages at infiniteopen.cn/dictionary_book/. The app developer is Pengyu Ren; privacy and support inquiries are handled through InfiniteOpen at contact@infiniteopen.cn.

02Data used on your device

The app stores saved words, definitions, examples, synonyms, collection names, tags, personal notes, creation dates, archive status, review ratings and history, next-review schedules, and your daily goal on your Mac. It uses these records to provide your notebook, spaced repetition and learning statistics.

Interface language, definition language and appearance preferences are stored locally in macOS preferences. The latest eight lookup terms are held in app memory for the current session and are not written to the vocabulary file.

The app has no account system, developer-operated cloud sync, advertising, third-party analytics SDK or automatic upload of learning records. It does not request access to your camera, microphone, contacts, photos or location.

03Dictionaries, pronunciation and Apple services

Lookups use built-in entries, your own entries or macOS Dictionary Services. Pronunciation uses the system speech synthesizer; it reads text aloud and does not record your voice. The app itself does not send lookup text or notes to our servers or an AI service.

Downloading system dictionaries or voices, App Store purchases and updates, and optional Apple diagnostics are handled by Apple under its own privacy terms and your system settings. The app does not receive your payment card details. These system services are distinct from our local vocabulary storage.

04Files, backups and printing

Import and export access only files you choose through the system file picker. Exported JSON backups contain your saved learning records and notes in readable form, without additional app-level encryption. Printing and PDF export pass the selected content to the macOS print workflow and the destination you choose.

You control where exported files go. If you choose iCloud Drive, another synchronized folder, a network printer or share a file, the relevant service or recipient may receive it under their own terms. Dictionary Book does not automatically upload those files.

05Retention and deletion on your Mac

Local learning records remain until you remove the app’s saved data. Archiving a word only hides it from the active notebook; it does not delete that word or its review history. Version 2.0 does not include a permanent-delete or erase-all button.

To remove all local learning records, quit the app and remove its DictionaryBook/library.json file from the app’s Application Support directory. For the sandboxed App Store build, the usual location is shown below. This erases the notebook and review history together; keep an export only if you wish to retain a copy. Contact support if you cannot locate the correct file.

~/Library/Containers/com.lalala.Dictionary-Book/Data/Library/Application Support/DictionaryBook/library.json

Removing the app alone may leave its data behind. Preferences, exported files, PDFs, printed copies and system or cloud backups are separate; manage or delete them in the relevant location or service. We cannot remotely access or delete files on your Mac.

06Support email and privacy requests

If you email us, we receive your email address, message and any attachments you choose to send, such as screenshots or diagnostic details. We use them to answer your request and investigate the issue. Do not include passwords or a complete vocabulary backup unless it is necessary and you choose to share it.

Messages are processed through the email providers involved in delivery and are accessible to people handling your request. We do not sell this information or use it for advertising. We retain correspondence only as needed for support, security, dispute handling and applicable recordkeeping requirements, then delete it when no longer needed.

Email contact@infiniteopen.cn to request access, correction or deletion of information you sent us, or to withdraw permission for optional further use. We may need to verify the request and may retain records required by law. A request concerning support correspondence does not delete local app data or copies held by your email provider.

07This website

These support and privacy pages contain no advertising trackers, analytics scripts, embedded third-party fonts or cookie-based tracking. Language selection is handled in the browser and page URL, without an account.

Serving a webpage involves processing your IP address and request information. The web server and hosting infrastructure may record access and error logs, including request time, requested path, browser information and response status, for operation, troubleshooting and security. These logs are separate from app learning data and are retained only as needed for those purposes or legal requirements. Contact us about website-log privacy requests.

08Children and data protection

The app does not require age, identity or contact details to use its local learning features. We do not knowingly solicit personal information from children. A parent or guardian can contact us to request deletion of a child’s information sent to support.

The app uses the macOS sandbox and system file permissions. There is no additional app-level encryption for the local vocabulary file or JSON exports. Protect your Mac and any backup or shared files using appropriate device and storage controls.

09Changes to this policy

We will update this page and its effective date when the described data practices change. New collection or sharing that requires permission will be explained and permission requested before it begins. This policy describes version 2.0; it does not describe an older app version’s implementation.
